What we do
Giving Tree
Since 1987, the Club's major project, "The Giving Tree". co-ordinates with local Social Service agencies , individuals and families to grant Christmas wishes to disadvantaged residents of the County. The wishes are place on Doves that decorate "Giving Trees" at banks, schools, churches and businesses throughout Livingston County. LWC members collect the donated gifts, purchase any requests left, wrap and deliver all gifts to the requesting agencies in time for the holidays. 1,613 requests were filled for 2013 Christmas season.
Crisis Fund
Immediate assistance is available to individuals or families who face an emergency and cannot wait for agency approval. Clients of all Social Service agencies can inquire about the LWC emergency funding. LWC has provided money for car repairs, school/work clothing, school fees, medical needs and other 'time critical' issues.
College Scholarship
The Livingston Women's Club offers an annual college / university scholarship to a high school senior who is a County resident planning on a Human Services career. Applications are available from school counselors or contact LWC. Letters are sent to Livingston County counselors.
The Giving Closet
Free, "gently-used" clothing, new underwear and socks, and a shoe voucher is given to children (sizes 3-16) of families who local social service agencies qualify as at or below poverty level .The "boutique-style store is housed at Shalom Lutheran Church. (This project will begin in Spring,2014)
Special Citizen Sports Banquet
By partnering with Special Ministries of Livingston County, the Club sponsors an annual awards ceremony for 100+ disabled citizens. this recognition is helpful in improving self-esteem and potential. The 2014 Banquet will be held June 11.)
